The Viron Range of chlorinators, both the Viron standard and the Viron EQ, were produced first manufactured in 2013, with a five-year warranty on both the power supply and the cell. During that first five-year period they were having a lot of warnings because the power control boards were failing and the software and hardware wasn’t coping in certain areas of the of the unit, so AstralPool’s engineers redesigned the power control boards making them last a lot longer. Since at least 2016, they’ve been awesome and they quite often last at least 8 years before requiring a complete reconditioning. AstralPool has been selling them since 2013 so that’s 13 years they have been on the market, and they’ve been widely sold throughout Australia with thousands of them installed. There are a lot of keyboard warriors saying how crap they are but you’re going to get that with any mass product that’s just come out – just like car manufacturers have issues with new releases. This chlorinator has been so widely sold and there are going to be people that are annoyed because there were issues with them at the start, but that has now been rectified and they are a very good system for your pool, worthwhile keeping and repairing.
This is based on my 13 years experience in the industry specifically repairing saltwater chlorinators. We do repair other equipment such as pumps and filters, and we do plumbing installations and so on as well, but my primary job that I’m specifically qualified for, is an Electrician specialising in chlorinator repairs. The Viron range are worthwhile fixing and rebuilding, and you’ll get a very good life out of them as well. Even though these have been discontinued, spare parts are still available, and they will continue to still be available for years to come because there are thousands of these units still out there. Don’t let your pool shop fool you into buying the ‘next best thing’ because I can assure you the next best thing isn’t the best thing – it’s just sales gimmick. There are good quality products out there, but unfortunately, Fluidra’s quality isn’t as good as what it was for the Viron standard and EQ dosing system. The Viron EQ dosing system is also very good – the best one ever made essentially and based on a previous model. The previous model was manufactured from 2007 to 2012, and then they used that same technology and didn’t change it. They put it in the EQ which not only monitors your chlorine levels but also monitors your pH levels. The EQ is the best all-in-one option and they have canned it, which sucks. So, if you’ve got one already don’t be fooled – get it reconditioned and get on with life. If you are considering a larger capacity unit (upgrading), this can be arranged at minimal extra cost.
We can ship interstate if required.
