Expert Advice from Aquamech Services

We recommend having your pool pump serviced every 3–4 years to keep it running efficiently and extend its lifespan.

If you’re in Brisbane, the most cost-effective option is to drop your pump in to us. We’ll service it thoroughly to help maximise its life expectancy, then you can simply pick it up when it’s ready.

Check if Your Pool Pump Is Working Properly

Check the water flow, pump, and water level for signs of a problem.

  • Check the pump lid: You should see mostly water with no large air pockets.
  • Listen to the pump: A steady hum is normal. Grinding, screeching, or rattling may indicate low water flow or worn bearings.
  • Check the return jets: Water should flow strongly and steadily.
  • Check the water level: Keep it halfway up the skimmer opening. Low water can cause the pump to draw in air.
  • Clean the baskets: Turn off the power and clear the skimmer and pump baskets of leaves and debris.
  • Check the pressure gauge: If it reads 10 PSI or more above normal, clean or backwash the filter.

Check for Air Leaks and Water Leaks

  • Inspect the O-ring: Check the pump-lid O-ring for cracks or dryness. A damaged O-ring can let air into the system. Lubricate with silicone-based lubricant if needed.
  • Look for leaks: Check around the pump and fittings for water puddles, leaks, or cracks.

Other Signs Your Pump Needs Attention

Your pump may require repair or servicing if you notice:

  • A fault light or error message on the display
  • No display or power
  • Noisy or worn bearings
  • Low suction or reduced water flow
  • The pump won’t prime, or won’t stay primed. (When a pump won’t prime, it means the pump housing is full of air instead of water)
  • The pump won’t start
  • Unusual noises, vibration or performance issues

If your pump has no lights or sounds and appears to have no power, try plugging another appliance into the same power point first to confirm that power is available.

Expert Pump Repairs

Where practical, we repair individual components rather than automatically replacing the entire pump. Our repairs can include:

  • Pump controller circuit boards

  • Impellers
  • Wet ends
  • Diffusers
  • Fans
  • Other electrical and mechanical components

As licensed electrical contractors, we can diagnose both electrical and mechanical faults and carry out repairs safely and professionally.
