Having trouble priming your pool pump? Follow the steps below to give your pump the best chance of priming properly. Please note: It’s important to read through all the steps before practically carrying out each step in order.
Step 1. Regrease inlet and outlet O-rings. To do this you will need to unscrew the pump to plumbing lock nuts. Once you have the O-rings out, clean them in pool water and grease with pool silicon grease. Once the O-rings are greased fit them back onto plumbing connections and do up the lock nuts. Please note: do not overtighten the lock nuts.
Step 2. Regrease pump lid O-ring. To do this remove the pump lid by unscrewing it from the pump body. Remove the O-ring and clean in pool water. Using pool silicon grease liberally grease up the lid O-ring and place back in the lid or body wherever it came from. Put the pump lid aside for the time being.
Step 3. Remove pump power cord from chlorinator pump socket outlet. Next with power point switch turned off plug pump power cord plug straight into power point.
Step 4. Remove pool suction cleaner and pool skimmer plate. This removes any restriction in water flow from the pool.
Step 5. Check pool water level. Make sure the pool water level is no less than half way up the height of the pool skimmer box. Ideally it’s best to have the pool level up to 3/4 of the skimmer box at all times.
Step 6. Fill pump wet end with water. Fill 2 x 20 litre buckets full of pool water and place in handy position close to the pump. Have the pump lid in close proximity to the pump also. Next with the pump lid removed fill the pump body with water. Once this is done quickly screw on the pump lid firmly and turn the power on at the switch. Pump will start.
Step 7. Important. Do not let the pump run for more than 15-25 seconds if water is not being drawn into the pump after completing step 6. If this is the case turn the pump power supply switch off. It may take repeating step 6, 2-3 times before the pump starts priming itself / sucking water through on its own. If the pump is not priming after 15-25 seconds switch pump off at the power point, unscrew pump lid and repeat step 6.
Outcome: The pump should have primed or started to prime after repeating step 6, 1-3 times. If it hasn’t primed itself or started to its highly likely that your pool pump requires servicing or reconditioning. If this is the case simply bring your pump into us, contact us through our website, or give us a call on 07 30677956.
