Check if Your Chlorinator Cell Is Working

A simple way to test your salt cell is to check the chlorine level directly from a pool return jet while the system is running.

Return Jet Test

1. Run the system: Set the chlorinator to 100% output and turn on the pump.
2. Take a sample: Collect water directly from a return jet.
3. Test the water: The chlorine reading should be noticeably higher than a sample taken from the pool.
4. Same reading? If the return-jet and pool readings are similar, the cell may not be producing chlorine.

Visually Check the Cell

• Look for bubbles: Fine bubbles or a light mist inside the cell while running indicate chlorine production.
• Check for scale: Turn off the power and inspect the plates. Heavy white calcium buildup or corrosion can reduce or stop chlorine production.
• Check the control panel: Look for warnings such as “No Flow,” “Low Salt,” or “Service.”

If the Cell Isn’t Producing Chlorine

• Clean the cell: If calcium scale is visible, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions. Never clean a cell while powered on.
• Check salt levels: Make sure the salt level matches the manufacturer’s recommended range, typically around 3,000–6,000 ppm.
• Check stabiliser (CYA): Low stabiliser/sunscreen/cyanuric acid allows sunlight to destroy chlorine quickly, making it appear as though the chlorinator isn’t working.

Standard Australia Post road freight is available from approximately $15, with Express Post available Australia-wide from approximately $29.

We can also assist with mobile collection and delivery if you’re unable to safely remove your chlorinator or would prefer us to handle the removal and transport.
